Searches – an alternative

Posted By Ken Walker

We have been trying to get to the bottom of the problem users report with the search function on our club web site.  It was baffling to identify because it seemed to be intermittent.  It turns out it wasn’t intermittent at all, it only seemed that way because only a few of our users reported they had a problem with it. The problem is that even when logged in, using the search function does not find private posts.  It has not been something I have been able to find a solution for, but until I do, here is an alternative.

Everything posted to the web site is posted to a category .  You will see them listed at the bottom of this post where it says “This entry was posted in . . . ”  For example, if you click on Board Reports you will see everything that has ever been posted under that category.  Once you are in the listing for a category, you can use the Archives drop down on the right to list posts by the year/month they were posted.  Using these categories, you should be able to find what you are looking for.  I have added a specific category for Rosters.  Many items will appear in more than one category.  Categories can be added easily as needed, let me know if there are any you would like to see.

If you go to the home page, press the little house at the left end of the toolbar at the top of each page, you will see a drop down tool headed Posts By Category. This has the same function and can always be found easily on the home page.

We haven’t given up on getting the search function to work with private content and will let you know if we make progress.
