Community Service Report – June 2015
Posted By Mike Haas
Our first Broom cut was held on Thursday, May 14th. We did two cuts, the first one being along Highway #4 just at the Coombs junction. Mike Haas, Allan Gannon, Bill Duckenfield and Colin Gillies along with Patrick Herzog joined a group of about 12 other Broombusters. CTV was there to film the event and they certainly came away with a good understanding of how serious the Broom issue is on Vancouver Island. The second cut was adjacent to the parking lot at QB Civic Center. Arlene and Mike did a third cut on Friday, May 29th at the back of Ravensong Pool and Mike joined a Group to do a fourth cut at the interchange of Hwy 19 and Hwy 4A across from the Alsbrook Center.
Father’s Day Show ‘n Shine
This coming Sunday we will be selling burgers, smokies, hot dogs and smoothies and hope to raise about $1500-$2000. We will need all hands on deck that day. The BBQ’s have been power washed and the propane bottles have been refilled so we are ready for action. Allen Ball will be picking up some of the supplies on Thursday and the remainder will be picked up early Sunday morning.
BeachFest 2015 (First event of New Rotary Year)
Beachfest will be held on July 5th and Our Rotary Club will be in charge of the children’s sand castle competition as well as the Fun Bubble “Thing”. Children will be given participation ribbons as well as a coupon for a free ice cream. Volunteers will be commandeered at this Tuesday’s meeting.
