September 7, 2010Guests this morning were Bashir-El-Khalafawi, Elinor Mix, Pat Arbo, Marjorie Ball and Sharon Woods. Gerry's birthday is today. Announcements: Doug introduced Sharon Woods (who is helping organize our Christmas Lights House tour) and she gave a very interesting talk on ovarian cancer. The program, which will be at Curves on September 13, is titled "Listen to the Whispers". Sharon told us how she lost her mother to ovarian cancer and that the symptoms for this disease are very subtle and can easily be mistaken or misdiagnosed. There is no test for ovarian cancer but research is being done as survival rate is very high if caught early but low if caught later. Sharon says women need to be aware of symptoms and be advocates for themselves while dealing with the medical system. Genetics are a risk factor as well as for those who have never had children taken the pill or nursed babies. Of course having done these things doesn't make you immune. Fines were minimal today and Allen had his ticket drawn but pulled a green marble.
