I was born in the Bella Coola valley and spent my growing up years in Bella Colla and Ocean Falls. I attended UBC graduating in Education in 1957. My first job was teaching at Chemainus High School 1957-1961. I moved to Victoria and taught at Esquimalt and Victoria High Schools 1961-1969. For most of my high school teaching career I was heavily involved in coaching Basketball and Track and Field both at the School and Club level. In 1969 I moved my family to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon. I Graduated with a MS in 1970. In 1973 I joined the faculty of Camosun College and remained at Camosun until my retirement in 1993.
During my working years, particularly the 1970's and 80's, I was an avid sailor and during that time explored most of coastal BC with one off shore excursion to my credit.
In 1997 I moved to Craig Bay in Parksville. In late 1999 Pat and I met and we married in December 2000.
I have 4 children, 8 grandchildren and one great grand daughter. Pat has 2 children and 1 grandaughter. The result is that we have busy summers hosting our children and grandchildren - sometimes its a chore to get the sheets laundered and the beds made before the next group arrives.
I became involved with our Rotary Club when then President Elect George Venner encouraged me to join. I was inducted into our Club in May 2001 and remained on the periphery of Rotary until I attended my first District Conference. I came away from that Conference and for the first time realized the impact Rotary and Rotarians were making at home and around the world. It suddenly became an organization that was more than just my breakfast club, it was an organization that was making a difference in the lives of people everywhere and I wanted to get involved. So here I am.
