We received a thank you letter from YoungLife for a donation to them.

Doug introduced Sharon Woods (who is helping organize our Christmas Lights House tour) and she gave a very interesting talk on ovarian cancer. The program, which will be at Curves on September 13, is titled "Listen to the Whispers". Sharon told us how she lost her mother to ovarian cancer and that the symptoms for this disease are very subtle and can easily be mistaken or misdiagnosed. There is no test for ovarian cancer but research is being done as survival rate is very high if caught early but low if caught later. Sharon says women need to be aware of symptoms and be advocates for themselves while dealing with the medical system. Genetics are a risk factor as well as for those who have never had children taken the pill or nursed babies. Of course having done these things doesn't make you immune.
An interior designer with the Canadian Redesigners Association Sharon has designed a portion of several patients homes to make a haven for healing for them.
Sharon is trying to "turn up the volume on Ovarian Cancer" and told us of the Winners Walk for Hope on September 12 which is being held across the country and in Comox and Victoria on Vancouver Island. There is a mini walk set for Nanaimo.

Fines were minimal today and Allen had his ticket drawn but pulled a green marble.
