This may seem a bit nerdy, but here goes anyway. You may have seen codes like the one in this image. These are the next generation of the familiar bar code, they are 2d instead of 1d like a bar code. The result is that they can include a lot more information. They are also very simple to generate and to read. Any smart phone with a camera should be able to read them. There are apps for the iphone. My android phone has one called barcode scanner. If I use the phone to scan this image, it takes me immediately to the web site that this code points to, in this case, our club web site. I believe you will see these become common. A poster for instance, even a billboard along a highway, can have a code on it that leads the smart phone user right to the web site without having to key anything in.

Our communications committee may want to take note. The image, which can easily be downloaded, can be included in the corner of posters, ads, other web sites or the like and smart phone users will have link they can just point to with their phones.
