Around Rotary’s World

Rotary District 9320, South Africa and the Rotary Club of Arcadia – Doing Good in the World

What is ROMEX?
Romex-Rotary Medical Equipment Exchange is a Rotary project of District 9320, South Africa, organized and managed by the Rotary Club of Arcadia. District 9320 comprises 52 clubs that are all involved in one way or another. http://www.rotaryarcadia.org.za/romex.htm

Over the past eight years, Romex has developed an international; network of Rotarians in the Netherlands, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Germany who are able to assist with the collection and shipping of quality surplus medical equipment from First World countries to South Africa.

The equipment is donated by medical institutions that modernize their equipment on a regular basis. This has resulted in the delivery of close to R100 million worth of quality medical equipment to beneficiaries in South Africa.

Rotary Club of Algoa Bay a Matching Grant Host Club

In order for an international Rotary Humanitarian Project to receive matching funds there must be 2 Rotary Clubs involved – A Host Club situated in the country where the project is to happen; and An International Club usually the Club(s) that initiates the Grant Application and provides the funds that will ultimate be matched either by the International District or by TRF (The Rotary Foundation).

The Rotary Club of Algoa Bay in District 9320, Republic of South Africa is the Host Club for a Project called the Emanuel Health Centre. Algoa Bay has connected with 2 International clubs both located in the US and it is the 2 US clubs that will be providing the funds to be matched by TRF the 2 US Clubs are:RC of Glenview Sunrise and the RC Council Bluffs
Usually the way it works is that the International Clubs manage the money and the Host Club looks after the project on the ground and ensures that the terms of the project are being met on budget on time and to standard.
