Around Rotary’s World
Irish quote of the day “May those who want to join Rotary, follow through with their promise and join; and those who don't, may God turn their hearts; and if He doesn't turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles so we'll know them by their limping.”
Happy belated St. Patrick’s Day

Just two months later, the club was awarded a Rotary Foundation District Simplified Grant of US$2,000 in support of a Make a Wish project to help children, ages 7 to 14, who have migrated from mainland China assimilate into their new culture.
“Each Rotarian: Reach One, Keep One”

Rotary’s new Membership slogan emphasizes the need for Rotarians to focus on both recruitment and retention in their membership growth efforts.
The slogan is a gentle reminder to “Reach Out”. Keep your Blackberry or IPod Touch handy to record that moment in time when the name of a potential member flashes in your thoughts.- or if your not a techy then long hand it in your Day Timer.
Each one of us became a Rotarian because someone invited us to attend a Rotary meeting; we all have a responsibility to grow our Rotary family so that we can continue to provide service to our local and international communities.

Rotary Moment

Peter chose as his Rotary Moment topic “The Object of Rotary
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
- FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
- SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
- THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
- FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

David will be remitting our quarterly submission to the Rotary Foundation this week Our quarterly TRF submission includes our PolioPlus contributions on behalf of our various Speakers and as well any contributions from members that David has received between mid December and today’s meeting. Your individual contributions will either be earmarked for the Annual Program’s Fund (remember our goal here is $3360) or PolioPlus (2009-10 goal is $3250). It takes TRF a couple of week after they receive our submission to process everything. Anyone who has made a contribution during this 3rd Quarter should check their RI Account sometime after the first week in April when processing is complete at RI. If you don’t know how to access your RI Account you should check with David.

Program
Membership was the focus at this mornings Club Assembly

Membership Director Pat Fougner presented a Proposal for a members brainstorming session; here’s what Pat asked us to consider:
- She has challenged members to recruit and induct new members into our club on or before Tuesday may 25th
- The priority is to recruit women and she proposed that 4 of the new members inducted on May 25th be women.
Pat’s rationale for the initiative is:
- The 4 new women coming into our club on May 25th would give our club a platform from which to build on, a platform that would lead to better gender balance in our club. Pat feels this cohort of 4 women plus our existing female members will have an easier time recruiting additional women in the future. We need women to recruit women.
- Pat also feels that as the club now stands with the gender imbalance that exists its challenging for women to feel “at home” in our club.
- Our Membership vision for 2015 is that we will be a club of 45 members with 45% of our members being female – That means 20 female members by 2015.
- Finally this cohort of women, Pat feels will give next years Membership Director, Larry Mix a good base to work from as we begin to work toward our 2015 Membership goals.
