2010-11 Contributions to the Annual Program Fund of the Rotary Foundation

Contributions to the Annual Programs Fund through the Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) initiative are the primary source of funding for Foundation programs.
From digging water wells for villages in Africa to teaching basic literacy skills to children in Latin America, during any given moment, thousands of Rotarians volunteer their time and expertise. All contributions to the Annual Programs Fund are spent wisely on quality Rotary projects.
Following are the top ten Rotary clubs in the world per capita that gave to the Annual Programs Fund, from 1 July to 30 April 2011:

  1. Peoria North , Arizona USA -- US$3,996 per club member
  2. Yangmei, Taiwan -- $3,985 per club member
  3. Yuanlin, Taiwan -- $3,772 per club member
  4. The Peak, Hong Kong -- $3,379 per club member
  5. San Nicolás de los Garza, Mexico -- $3,086 per club member
  6. Senri, Osaka, Japan -- $3,054 per club member
  7. Panchiao, Taiwan -- $2,759 per club member
  8. Gwangju-Youmju, Gwangju, Korea -- $2,015 per club member
  9. Antigo, Wisconsin USA -- $1,795 per club member
  10. Seoul Joongang, Seoul, Korea -- $1,699 per club member

In our District, District 5020, contributions to the Annual Program Fund from July1, 2010 to May 31, 2011:

  3. The 88 District 5020 clubs – US$105 per club member

June 14th Meeting

Guests

Our only guest this morning was Karen Vandenberg from the St. Stevens Hot Lunch Program; Welcome Karen.

Rotary Moment

David’s Rotary Moment topic was the Rotary Foundation and specifically Sunrise Rotarians contributions to the Foundation in 2010-11. At PETS last year, David had submitted a goal of $3600 in Sunrise members contributions to the Annual Programs Fund; that figure represented a per member contribution of $133. The goal David established for contributions to Polio Plus was $2000, that translates into a $74 contribution per Sunrise member.
Did we achieve our Foundation Goals?
  1. Our Annual Program Goal was $3600 / $133 per member and we’ve contributed, since July 1, 2010, $4024 / $149 per member. That’s 120% of our goal; well done QB Sunrise
  2. Our Polio Plus Goal was $2000 / $74 per member and to date we’ve contributed $1575 / $58 per member; that’s 78% of our 2010-11 goal; we have until June 30 to contribute that additional $225 and contributions can be made on line at www.rotary.org and click on “contribute”.

Announcements

Community Services Director Gerry Herkel presents Karen Vandenberg from the St Stephen’s Hot Lunch Program with a cheque for $400.

Karen reported that the Hot Lunch Program is now in its 5th year and is serving a weekly hot lunch to between 70 and 200 people. They have expanded the program to include suppers once each month as well as a Christmas dinner that was very well attended.

Show and Shine is happening this next Sunday; contact Larry if you’re able to volunteer

Allen also announced that we would be assisting the Parksville Rotary club at the Parksville Canada Day celebrations. David will be attending the Canada Day organizational meeting and will be organizing an assignment sheet; stay tuned.

David will be responding to DG Elect David Stocks’ request that the club approve giving the District Secretary access to our members personal information housed on the RI website. Access will make it much easier for the district Secretary to perform his District responsibility and to communicate across the District. Note that Club Secretary’s do have this right of access to their own clubs information and I believe it makes sense to have the District Secretary have the same access to the information of the constituency that he/she serves.

Program

President Elect Allan presented the Proposed Club Team Structure for our club for the Rotary year 2011-12. Allan’s emphasis is very much on Team building. In a team each person has a roll to play, an assignment, that needs to be fulfilled if the team is to succeed. The other thing to note is that Allan calls this a “Proposed Structure” so presumably its open for further input from members.
