Our meeting this week was held on Monday noon at the Bayside, Parksville.
We joined forces with The Rotary Club of Parksville for lunch, quite a change
from our early morning breakfast meeting. I found their members to be very friendly and hospitable, I liked the way they each came over to our table and introduced themselves.
Just 9 from our club attended, I guess it was difficult for those missing, owing to business commitments? Did anyone show up at 7am this morning for our usual get together, I wonder?
Bent Harder was the guest speaker and represented Rotaplast. Rotaplast is a combined term of Rota (Rotary) and plast (plastic surgery). Rotaplast provides free reconstructive surgery to children and adults with cleft lip, cleft palate and burn injuries in developing countries. Bent is very entertaining, a great speaker and a very good Rotarian of some 40 years.
Our past President Matt greeted me when I arrived at the meeting and quickly sold me a 50/50 ticket, but I didn’t win! He was also called upon to tell a daily joke, which he related in his usual flamboyant way, I can’t for the life of me remember it, but I know it didn’t go down too well with his audience, in other words it was a flop, sorry Matt! If it’s any consolation Matt, we do miss you!
Hopefully see you all next Tuesday….. Kim.
Today’s smile
A man was driving down the road and ran out of gas. Just at that moment, a bee flew in his window.
The bee said, “What seems to be the problem?”
“I’m out of gas!” the man replied.
The bee told the man to wait right there and few away. Minutes later, the man watched as an entire swarm of bees flew to his car and into his gas tank. After a few minutes, the bees flew out again.
“Try it now,” said one bee.
The man turned the ignition key and the car started right up.
“Wow!” the man exclaimed. “What did you put in my gas tank?”
The bee answered, “BP.” (BP – British Petroleum)!
