Aboard HMCS Athabasca

On Suday June 17 at 0930 hours 5 Sunrise Rotarians; President Jim, David, Ken, Pat and Ed, joined over 200 other guests aboard the Destroyer HMCS Athabasca for a cruise from the Naval Base at Nanoose to CFB Esquimalt. While on board we were treated to a number of manuvers including "a man overboard drill" and demonstrations of ordinance firing.

We were divided into small groups and toured the ship from stem to stern and from the bridge to the engine room. Lunch was served on the hanger deck - hamburgers hot dogs and gallons of hot coffee.

The officers and crew of the Athabasca were wonderful hosts and went out of their way to give us a sense of what serving on a Destroyer would be like.

After our arrival at CFB Esqiomalt at approximatly 1600 hours we were bussed back to Nanoose.
